Miracle League Secures $1M Milestone for Roxbury Park’s Accessible Baseball Field |
Johnstown is one step closer to opening a dedicated space for athletes of all abilities. The Miracle League, a nonprofit focused on creating inclusive recreational opportunities, has officially secured $1 million toward the construction of a specialized baseball field and sports complex at the city-owned Roxbury Park. The project is currently in its first phase, which carries an estimated price tag of $2.5 million. This initial stage plans for a custom-designed field, alongside essential amenities like a concession stand, bleachers, and a community pavilion. To engage the local community, organizers are installing a "goal thermometer" at the park to visually track their progress as they enter a more intensive fundraising period. “We’re continuing to find ways to get the word out to support that general fundraising campaign,” said Jeff Cramer, President of The Miracle League at Roxbury Park. A significant boost to the project recently arrived via a $500,000 endowment from the Edith L. Trees Charitable Trust. The Pittsburgh-based group specifically funds initiatives that benefit children with autism and other disabilities. Cramer noted that this contribution serves as a vital "springboard" for their wider campaign, which officially kicks off this March. In addition to private trusts, The Miracle League is seeking a partnership with Pirates Charities, the philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates. While discussions have been ongoing for nearly a year, organizers remain optimistic about crossing the finish line with the Major League organization soon. |
