A massive $20 million project is now underway in Jackson Township, signaling a huge investment in our local workforce.
Construction has begun along U.S. Route 22 on a state-of-the-art training facility for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 126.
This is a direct response to a surging demand for skilled electrical workers across the region, a need that has reportedly outpaced the current training capabilities.
The new center is a monumental leap forward, replacing a facility that has remained largely unchanged since the 1970s.
Officials associated with the project confirmed the existing center will be decommissioned once the new one is complete.
The transition will dramatically expand the union's capacity to train the next generation of linemen.
It's expected the new site will be able to handle nearly ten times the number of apprentices as the current building.
This increased space will allow for more comprehensive, hands-on training in critical areas like overhead transmission and underground distribution.
The project received a significant boost from a $3 million state grant, a crucial piece of funding secured with the help of State Senator Wayne Langerholc and Representative Frank Burns.
Their advocacy underscores the project's importance not just for the union, but for the economic future of Cambria County.
Leaders are hopeful the facility will be fully operational and shaping careers by this October, providing a vital pipeline of talent for years to come. |
