Drunk Driving Prevention and Prom Safety Tips in Cambria County Pennsylvania

Featuring advice from a mock car crash demonstration

As prom season approaches, students at Forest Hills High School in Sidman, Pennsylvania, recently experienced a powerful lesson on the dangers of impaired driving. Local first responders orchestrated a mock car crash demonstration to underscore the importance of making safe choices during celebrations.

The simulation featured a staged two-car collision, complete with emergency personnel performing real-time rescue operations. This immersive approach aimed to provide students with a visceral understanding of the potential consequences of driving under the influence.

Adams Township Police Chief Kirk Moss emphasized the urgency of the message, noting recent fatal crashes in the county involving young individuals. He urged students to prioritize safety by wearing seat belts, adhering to speed limits, and avoiding distractions such as texting or substance use while driving.

Senior Danica Shrift, who participated in the mock accident, described the experience as both realistic and frightening. She highlighted the importance of such demonstrations in reinforcing the need for responsible decision-making, both now and in the future.

Breanna Martin, another senior involved in the drill, reflected on how a single poor choice can have lasting repercussions. She expressed that, despite the simulation being staged, it effectively conveyed the gravity of impaired driving incidents.

Superintendent David Lehman reiterated the event's goal of promoting positive decision-making among students. He stressed that understanding the real-world consequences of impaired driving is crucial, especially as students prepare for events like prom.

This initiative aligns with broader efforts across Pennsylvania to combat impaired driving. For instance, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Highway Safety Network have partnered with local businesses to promote designated driving through various campaigns. These collaborative efforts aim to reduce the incidence of impaired driving and ensure community safety.

As prom season continues, the message remains clear: make responsible choices to protect yourself and others on the road.
