Large Windmill Blade Transports to Slow Traffic Across Three Counties This Week |
PennDOT warns of potential delays on key routes in Bedford, Cambria, and Somerset counties as two massive turbine components make their way through the region. |
Motorists traveling through Bedford, Cambria, and Somerset counties this week may experience significant delays as oversized windmill blades move along several major routes, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). Two transports are planned, with one scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, and another for Thursday, March 26. The first windmill blade will depart from a Maryland facility at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and make its way to the Cambria Wind LLC Farm in Somerset County, located off Route 56. The transport will move north on U.S. 220 and I-99 through Bedford County before turning onto Route 56 (Quaker Valley Road/Clear Shade Drive) toward its destination. A second blade will begin its journey from Maryland on Thursday, heading to the Highland North Wind Farm in Cambria County. That transport will also depart at 8 a.m., traveling north along U.S. 219 through Somerset and Cambria counties before continuing on Route 869 (Locust Street) and Route 160 (Mill Road) to the site. PennDOT advises drivers to remain patient, alert, and cautious around these slow-moving superloads, which may occupy two lanes at certain points. The transports will periodically pull over to allow traffic to pass safely. |
