Pavement resurfacing and road construction updates in Cambria County Pennsylvania |
traffic delays and road construction updates for local commuters |
Starting Monday, April 20, motorists in Cambria County should anticipate significant traffic delays due to extensive road construction projects. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a pavement resurfacing initiative on Route 756, affecting areas from Route 403 to Route 3016. This project encompasses Geistown and Lorain boroughs, the city of Johnstown, and Stonycreek Township.
The scope of work includes cleaning and flushing drainage structures, resetting pipes, upgrading ADA ramps, and conducting milling and paving operations. Weather conditions will influence the project timeline. Quaker Sales Corporation of Johnstown is leading this $1.36 million endeavor, which also involves guide rail updates, tree trimming, and drainage maintenance. Completion is targeted for June 2026.
In addition, a bridge rehabilitation project on U.S. 219 in Richland Township is set to commence on April 13. This will result in lane restrictions and the closure of Route 3104 (Mt. Airy Drive) over U.S. 219. Detours will be in place, directing traffic through Solomon Run Road, Galleria Drive, and Oakridge Drive. J.F. Shea Construction is overseeing this $2.26 million project, expected to conclude in October.
PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution in all work zones. It's essential to reduce speed, eliminate distractions, and remain alert to signage and flaggers. For real-time traffic updates, motorists can utilize the 511PA service, accessible online, via smartphone applications, or by dialing 5-1-1.
These infrastructure improvements aim to enhance road safety and travel efficiency in Cambria County. While temporary inconveniences are expected, the long-term benefits will be substantial for local commuters and the broader community. |
