Motorists Advised to Plan for Short Traffic Interruptions During Roadwork |
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that paving operations will commence on U.S. 219 between Carrolltown and Northern Cambria Borough in Cambria County, starting Monday, October 13, 2025.
Contractors will begin applying the final asphalt layer, known as the wearing course, moving from south to north, starting in Carrolltown and progressing toward Northern Cambria.
This phase of the project is scheduled to continue through the week of October 20 to October 24, with work proceeding in the same south-to-north direction.
All activities are weather-dependent.
Quaker Sales, Inc., based in Johnstown, is overseeing this $5.2 million project, which encompasses resurfacing, base repairs, guide rail and drainage upgrades, traffic signal replacements, and geometric curve improvements along U.S. 219.
The project is slated for completion during the 2025 construction season.
During construction, traffic will be managed under daylight flagging operations, with potential delays not expected to exceed 15 minutes.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution in all work zones, drive slowly, eliminate distractions, and remain alert to signage and flagger instructions.
Additionally, PennDOT reminds drivers that as of June 5, 2025, "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect, prohibiting the use of hand-held devices while driving, even during temporary stops due to traffic or signals.
Violations are subject to summary citations.
Motorists can check current road conditions by visiting 511PA, a free service available 24/7, offering traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to over 1,000 traffic cameras.
511PA is also accessible via smartphone applications for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional alerts.
