Drivers to Face Significant Delays on U.S. 22 in Cambria County for Traffic Signal Installation |
Up to 15-minute backups expected Thursday, May 7, at Chickaree Hill Road intersection due to business park growth |
Motorists should prepare for lengthy delays on U.S. 22 (Admiral Peary Highway) in Jackson Township, Cambria County, on Thursday, May 7. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that traffic could be slowed for up to 15 minutes at the intersection with Route 3045 (Chickaree Hill Road) and T-428 (Mile Hill Road) while crews install new traffic signal equipment. The improvements are being driven by rising traffic volumes linked to increased activity at the Jackson Township Business Park. Once the new equipment is installed on May 7, the signal will initially operate in flash mode — with side-street stop control and truck crossing warnings — similar to the current setup. It will transition to a full stop-and-go signal once side-street traffic volumes increase enough to justify it. Plum Contracting, Inc. of Greensburg is the prime contractor for the project. The $1,098,582 initiative includes enhanced access to Route 3045 (Chickaree Hill Road) and upgraded traffic signals at the U.S. 22 intersection to better accommodate future business park development. PennDOT is urging drivers to exercise extra caution in the work zone: slow down, avoid distractions, and watch for signage and flaggers. Travelers are encouraged to “Know Before They Go” by checking real-time road conditions on www.511PA.com, through the free 511PA mobile app (available for Android and iPhone), or by dialing 5-1-1. The service provides 24/7 updates on traffic delays, speeds, weather, and access to over 1,000 traffic cameras across more than 40,000 miles of roadway. |
