Cambria County Honors Excellence in Sports with Class of 2026 and New World Champions Wing

Celebration highlights local legends and global achievers at July induction banquet

The Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame will spotlight a remarkable group of athletes and contributors during its 2026 Induction Banquet on July 11 at the Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center. This year’s event introduces both the Class of 2026 and the first-ever World Champions Wing, recognizing those who have reached the highest levels of competition.

The seven-member induction class includes Steve Carlson, Joe Majer, Karyn McCready, Janae (Dunchack) McGuirk, Tim Rigby, Jessica (Brutz) Stoddard, and John Strittmatter. Each honoree has made a lasting impact across local, collegiate, and national sports.

Carlson gained fame as a standout hockey player and “Slap Shot” figure, while Majer’s legendary coaching career produced more than 600 wins. McCready earned national recognition in javelin, and McGuirk excelled in multiple sports before a decorated collegiate career. Rigby became a trusted voice in regional sports broadcasting, while Stoddard achieved All-American honors in swimming and later thrived as a coach. Strittmatter captured a national wrestling title and continues to mentor elite athletes.

The newly established World Champions Wing will debut with standout honorees, including the 2025 Little League Softball World Series champion West Suburban 12U team and world champion wrestlers Bo Bassett, Keegan Bassett, and Jax Forrest.

Additionally, Daniel Barefoot will be recognized for representing Team USA in skeleton at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Hall of Fame Chairman Bruce Haselrig emphasized that this year’s class reflects both tradition and excellence, celebrating individuals who have brought pride to Cambria County through dedication and achievement.

The banquet will serve as a tribute to the region’s deep athletic roots and continued success on the world stage.
