East Taylor Township Fire Department will receive $60,000 for renovations to its fire station, while Conemaugh Independence Volunteer Fire Company in East Conemaugh Borough will receive $55,000 to purchase new firefighting hoses. The grants were announced Oct. 1 and come through Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development programs. For volunteer departments, equipment and building expenses can place a heavy burden on local fundraising and municipal budgets. The new funding directs money toward practical needs: improving the place where East Taylor crews operate and replacing essential hose equipment used by Conemaugh Independence firefighters. The awards add to a series of recent public-safety investments around Cambria County. Earlier this year, fire and EMS For residents, the impact is straightforward.
