Saint Francis Family Weekend Opens a New Red Wolves Chapter |
Families gather in Loretto as the university celebrates community and a new athletics identity |

Saint Francis University welcomed families to Loretto for its annual Family Weekend, bringing students, parents, alumni and friends together for three days of campus activities and a milestone moment in university history. The Sept. 25-27 weekend included a full schedule of events, but one of the biggest draws came at DeGol Field, where Saint Francis football played at home under the university’s new Red Wolves identity. The game gave families a chance to experience the next chapter of Saint Francis athletics together as the school begins its transition to NCAA Division III competition. The Red Wolves name was unveiled earlier this year and draws inspiration from the Franciscan story of the Wolf of Gubbio. University leaders have said the identity is intended to represent courage, compassion, unity and community while still honoring the school’s Red Flash legacy. Family Weekend showed how that new identity is beginning to take root beyond logos and uniforms. The crowd, campus activities and shared traditions gave students and families an opportunity to celebrate both the university’s history and what comes next. For Cambria County, Saint Francis remains an important part of the Loretto community, and weekends like this bring visitors, energy and school spirit to the region while strengthening connections between the university and local residents. |
