Flag Day is coming up. |
Core Symbolism National Unity: Unlike Independence Day, which celebrates freedom from British rule, Flag Day explicitly celebrates the birth of the primary symbol that binds the states together. The Stripes: The 13 horizontal stripes symbolize the original colonies that declared independence. The Stars: The 50 stars represent the collective strength of the 50 individual sovereign states. The Colors: According to military tradition, red represents valor and bravery; white represents purity and innocence; blue represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice. Pennsylvania is the only state that observes it as an official state holiday. |

Cambria County drivers should brace for ongoing traffic delays as PennDOT continues several road projects through Friday, June 19.
Expect slowdowns along Route 756 in Richland Township near key intersections like Vo-Tech Drive and Industrial Park Road, with possible waits of up to 15 minutes due to waterline and signal work.
Similar disruptions are anticipated along Route 756 between Route 403 and Route 3016, covering areas of Johnstown, Geistown, and Lorain Borough. Crews are resurfacing pavement, grading shoulders, and upgrading guide rails.
On U.S. 22, lane restrictions will remain between Munster-Portage and the Blair County line for resurfacing and infrastructure upgrades, affecting both directions.
U.S. 219 in Richland Township will continue with single-lane restrictions and a 2.9-mile detour for bridge rehabilitation until June 26.
Motorists are urged to stay alert, follow signs, and plan ahead for delays. Read More... |
Cambria County is set for a wave of economic growth with the recent expansion of the Keystone Opportunity Zone (KOZ) program.
This initiative brings major tax incentives, waiving state and local taxes like corporate net income, personal income, and sales tax for eligible businesses and residents.
The KOZ program’s expansion targets turning vacant properties into vibrant business and residential developments, breathing new life into underutilized areas.
Companies moving in must boost local jobs by 20% or invest at least 10% of last year’s revenues within their first year.
With over 10,000 jobs already created statewide, local leaders believe Cambria County will soon see similar success—and a revitalized economy.
This move offers businesses a unique chance to expand with significant tax breaks, while fueling local renewal and broadening opportunity.

In several Pennsylvania towns, trust remains a powerful force in local business. Johnstown, Easton, and Pottsville were recently recognized among America’s top “handshake economies,” where deals often rely as much on personal honor as official paperwork. This recognition follows a nationwide survey of 3,000 small business owners by Advance Funds Network. In Johnstown, generations of industry and close-knit neighborhoods have fostered a culture where a person’s word still means everything. Easton’s blend of hometown charm and urban energy sees personal referrals opening doors, while Pottsville’s deep local roots support a practical, no-nonsense attitude toward trust. The survey found prior business experience and reputation are key drivers of confidence. While handshake deals have become rarer due to modern risks, these communities prove that personal relationships and reliability are still essential for success. Read More... |

🛒 Main Street Market — 507 Main St., Johnstown (Opening Summer 2026!)Here's one to get genuinely excited about, neighbors — a real, full-service grocery store is coming back to the heart of downtown Johnstown, and it could open any day this summer. A new grocery market featuring produce, deli items, and other everyday foods is expected to open in downtown Johnstown this summer. The project is moving into the former Rite Aid building at 507 Main Street and is being developed by Terravista Capital, a commercial real estate group based in Allegheny County. Grocery vendor Terra Vista has invested half a million dollars in the process to open the store, and an additional $600,000 has been contributed through Johnstown-area nonprofits and government grants. This is a true community effort — involving the Johnstown Redevelopment Authority, the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, the City of Johnstown, JARI, and Vision 2025. The need couldn't be more real. The store will fill a need for downtown residents that has existed since the closure of Ideal Market on Walnut Street. For years, downtown residents have had to travel for basic groceries — that's about to change. The new store will sit directly across from the redesigned Central Park, which is also scheduled to reopen this summer after extensive renovations, meaning this stretch of Main Street is shaping up to be a genuine community hub. JRA Executive Director Mark Critz has described the transformation with real optimism: "There is excitement and things happening." Keep an eye on jrapa.org and the City of Johnstown's social media pages for a grand opening announcement — this is one ribbon-cutting you won't want to miss. When it opens, the best way to support it is simply to shop there. Every local grocery run is a vote for a thriving downtown. |
