Flag Day is coming up. |
Core Symbolism National Unity: Unlike Independence Day, which celebrates freedom from British rule, Flag Day explicitly celebrates the birth of the primary symbol that binds the states together. The Stripes: The 13 horizontal stripes symbolize the original colonies that declared independence. The Stars: The 50 stars represent the collective strength of the 50 individual sovereign states. The Colors: According to military tradition, red represents valor and bravery; white represents purity and innocence; blue represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice. Pennsylvania is the only state that observes it as an official state holiday. |

Memorial Day in Cambria County meant more than speeches for dozens of people who gathered in Johnstown for a grueling workout designed to honor fallen service members and aid veterans. A local gym organized the third annual Murph Challenge — a brutal combination of running, pull-ups, push-ups, and squats completed in honor of fallen Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy — with proceeds supporting veteran causes. Three years running and still going strong. Our community shows up every single time. 🇺🇸 Key Details: Keep an eye on WJAC for coverage, or search for next year's challenge at themurphchallenge.com. 📰 Source: WJAC TV ✈️ Johnstown Puts Aviation on the Map at Aerium Innovation Summit Our community is becoming a genuine hub for next-generation aviation, and local leaders are making it happen. The 2026 Aerium Innovation Summit officially kicked off this past Wednesday morning at the Johnstown-Cambria County Airport, bringing together aviation and aerospace professionals from across the state to advance innovation, education, and workforce development. The two-day event featured regional and state leaders, panels on emerging aviation technologies, high school and college teams showcasing innovative ideas, and more. And there's a bigger picture here: in early 2026, Aerium announced it will base its U.S. Remote Operations Center in Cambria County at the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport — a partnership expected to generate nearly 250 high-skilled jobs and establish the region as a national leader in drone technology. The Drone814 Project is among the first-of-its-kind pilot programs funded by the Department of Transportation. Aviation officials say it will deploy drones to deliver defibrillators to heart attack victims, Narcan to overdose victims, EpiPens to shock victims, and tourniquets to trauma victims. State Sen. Wayne Langerholc and state Rep. Jim Rigby highlighted their support for the Drone814 emergency response program, which uses drones to deliver lifesaving medical supplies within minutes to people in need beyond a visual line of sight. This matters especially for rural corners of the county where ambulances take longer to arrive. Stay informed and support the effort! After almost five years, the iconic Johnstown landmark is possibly one step closer to reopening. A final 30-day testing and maintenance period is now underway before the beloved funicular can carry passengers again.
