Sunday, May 10, 2026 - Mother's Day
Anna Jarvis, the daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis, after her mother died in 1905, she campaigned for a national holiday to memorialize her mother’s sacrifices.

The Path to a National Holiday
1908: Anna Jarvis held the first official Mother’s Day service at St. Andrew’s Methodist Church in West Virginia.

1914: President Woodrow Wilson signed the proclamation making the second Sunday in May an official national holiday.

Symbolism: Anna chose the white carnation as the original symbol because it was her mother's favorite flower.

📍 Today, The International Mother's Day Shrine in Grafton, WV, marks this birthplace.

Meet Hamburglar — and no, he’s not here to steal your burgers… just your heart.

This 5-year-old large mixed breed first arrived at the shelter in September 2023 after being found as a stray in Stonycreek. He was adopted for a time, but after being found wandering again in August 2025, he sadly ended up back at the shelter when his owner never came forward for him.

Despite the ups and downs, Hamburglar still greets life with enthusiasm and a big goofy smile. True to his name, Hamburglar definitely has a love for food — treats are a quick way to win him over! He isn’t picky either; if it’s tasty, it’s a win in his book. Because he can be food possessive, Hamburglar would do best in a home without other animals or children where he can enjoy his meals and snacks without worrying someone might “robble robble” his stash.

Hamburglar also loves toys of all kinds and is always ready for playtime. When he gets really excited to see his favorite people, he might jump up to give you a big hug — his way of saying he’s happy you’re there.

He’s currently working on polishing up his leash manners, but with some patience and consistency, he’s sure to improve. Hamburglar is a people-loving pup with a big personality and lots of affection to give. In the right home, he’ll happily trade his burger-bandit reputation for the title of loyal best friend
