The Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame will honor an extraordinary lineup of local athletes and contributors during its 2026 Induction Banquet on July 11 at the Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center.
This year marks the debut of the World Champions Wing alongside the Class of 2026, elevating recognition for those who’ve reached peak levels in competition.
The seven inductees—Steve Carlson, Joe Majer, Karyn McCready, Janae (Dunchack) McGuirk, Tim Rigby, Jessica (Brutz) Stoddard, and John Strittmatter—represent excellence from hockey and broadcasting to javelin and wrestling.
Carlson became a hockey icon, Majer built a legacy with over 600 coaching wins, and McCready and McGuirk excelled nationally in their sports. Rigby is known for his sports coverage, while Stoddard and Strittmatter each achieved national acclaim.
The Hall will also spotlight the 2025 West Suburban 12U softball world champions and acclaimed young wrestlers Bo and Keegan Bassett and Jax Forrest.
Daniel Barefoot will be honored for representing Team USA in skeleton at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

President Donald Trump will return to Pennsylvania on July 14–15 for the 2026 Pennsylvania Defense and Innovation Summit, hosted at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle by Sen. Dave McCormick.
Major leaders from defense, technology, and finance will gather, including top executives from JPMorgan, Blackstone, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Palantir.
The summit follows last year’s record-setting investment announcements, with billions committed locally to data center and energy infrastructure across Luzerne, Lancaster, and Dauphin counties.
However, community concerns about environmental impact and energy use have stirred debate and calls for stricter oversight of these large-scale projects.
The upcoming summit will focus on boosting Pennsylvania’s defense industrial base and strengthening national security, aligning with Trump’s “Peace through Strength” agenda and ambitions for a $1.5 trillion defense budget.
Trump is expected to unveil new partnerships and investments, raising local hopes for Pennsylvania’s future role in innovation and manufacturing. Read More... |

Richland Township: indoor golf meets local hangoutRichland Indoor Golf Tavern, at 1025 Eisenhower Blvd. in Richland Township, held a ribbon cutting on June 16 and has already opened its doors with golf simulators, a full bar, pool, darts, shuffleboard, and leagues for both men and women. Owner Greg Sichak said the business grew from a simulator-only idea into a more complete entertainment spot after the liquor license came through, which he called “the next chapter” for the place.wjactv What makes it special for Cambria County is that it blends a sports-bar feel with year-round indoor golf, giving locals something new to do whether they’re serious golfers or just looking for a night out. The tavern is open Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from noon to 11 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 7 p.m., so residents can support it by stopping in for a round, a drink, or one of the leagues.wjactv Johnstown: a bigger showroom for a growing brandKrisay’s Appliance and Bedding opened a new location on Lamberd Avenue in Johnstown in late July 2025, and the company marked the move with a ribbon cutting. Owner San Romano said the new site expanded them from a 1,200-square-foot showroom to 8,000 square feet, which means “a lot more to offer” for customers shopping for appliances and bedding.wjactv For Cambria County shoppers, the bigger space matters because it gives local families more room to compare products in person instead of heading out of the county for selection. The shop’s grand-opening coverage did not list complete current hours or social links, but the store’s new Johnstown presence and ribbon-cutting event make it a clear local option worth checking out in person. |
