Cambria County Unveils Plans for America's 250th Anniversary Celebrations

Cambria County is gearing up to commemorate the United States' 250th anniversary with a series of events designed to honor the nation's rich history and engage the local community.

 

In April, the county planted a Liberty Tree at Sandyvale Memorial Gardens in Johnstown, symbolizing the enduring values of freedom and unity. This initiative was part of the broader efforts by the Pennsylvania America 250 Mobile Unit to connect communities with their historical roots.

 

Looking ahead, the America250PA Countdown to 250 Mobile Experiential Unit is scheduled to visit the Ebensburg PotatoFest on September 27, 2025. This interactive exhibit aims to bring the nation's history to life, offering residents a unique opportunity to engage with the past.

 

Educational initiatives are also at the forefront of the celebrations. An essay contest is set to launch in October, inviting students to explore themes of liberty and democracy. Winners will be recognized during the Cambria County America 250 Celebration event on July 4, 2026, at the Cambria County Courthouse in Ebensburg.

 

Additionally, a custom-designed torch, crafted by J. Andrew Jacobs Ornamental Iron of Northern Cambria, will tour local school districts. Each district will host the torch for a week, fostering a sense of shared heritage and community pride.
