As of mid-April 2026, many Cambria County teams are hitting the peak of their spring seasons, with significant milestones in tennis, track, and baseball.
 

🏆 College Athletics

Saint Francis University (SFU)

 
  • Women's Tennis: The Red Flash made program history on April 18, 2026, by capturing their first-ever NEC Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 sweep over top-seeded FDU. Freshman Helena Lynn set a new program record with her 28th win of the season.
  • Men's Volleyball: The team secured the title of NEC Regular Season Champions after a victory over FDU on April 17.
  • Softball: The team is currently competing in a high-stakes series against FDU, entering the weekend as the reigning conference champions. 

University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ)

 
  • Softball: Pitcher Mia Smith recently surpassed 400 career strikeouts. In recent play, the team split a doubleheader with Clarion on April 18, winning one game 10-8 but dropping the other 3-2.
  • Baseball: The Mountain Cats secured a tight 7-6 win against Gannon University on April 17, though their April 18 games were postponed due to weather.
  • Major Hosting News: UPJ has been selected to host the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Super Regional golf tournament at Sunnehanna Country Club in May 2026.

Mount Aloysius College

 
  • Baseball: The Mounties powered past La Roche 13-5 on April 15, fueled by a 13-run surge over the final four innings.
  • Softball: Ace pitcher Jessica Koptcho reached the 300-strikeout milestone during a road sweep of Alfred State.
  • New Leadership: The college announced Pat Martinelli as the new head men's basketball coach on April 17.

  • Bishop McCort: The Crimson Crushers captured the Gene Schultz Memorial Tournament title on April 18 with a win over Greater Johnstown. In softball, Hannah Pfeil recently hit for the cycle in a 19-5 victory over Bishop Carroll.
  • Central Cambria: The baseball team rallied for a walk-off 7-6 win against rival Penn Cambria earlier this month, a game Coach Dan Beyer hopes will be a "springboard" for their season.
  • Northern Cambria: The Colts baseball team remains undefeated (8-0) after a late-inning 7-3 victory over Cambria Heights.
  • Cambria Heights: The "Lady Highlanders" softball team secured a 6-3 win over Homer-Center behind a three-hit performance from Carlie Jo Bachik. 

Track and Field

 
  • Richland High School: The boys' team claimed the West Central Coaches Meet crown on April 18, 2026, led by standout performances in distance and depth.
