The Miracle League of Cambria County has secured a $650,000 state grant to support the construction of a specialized baseball field designed for children with special needs.

The funding comes through Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) and will help transform Roxbury Park in Johnstown into a more inclusive recreational space. Announced on July 16 by Sen. Wayne Langerholc Jr., the project includes plans for a new baseball field, bleachers, a concession stand, a press box, and stormwater system improvements.

Sen. Langerholc emphasized the importance of the investment, noting that it will enhance a valuable community resource while ensuring accessibility for individuals of all abilities. He said the project will help more residents stay active and engaged in a welcoming environment.

RACP is a state-funded initiative administered by the Office of the Budget. It supports major projects across Pennsylvania that contribute to economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical development. Projects funded through RACP are not eligible for primary funding from other state programs.

Miracle League of Cambria County President Jeffery Cramer expressed gratitude for the funding and the senator’s support. He said the grant will play a critical role in bringing the project to life and creating a regional destination that serves families and athletes with special needs.

The new ballpark is expected to expand opportunities for inclusive play and strengthen community connections throughout the area.

Never heard of the Miracle League before this but just looked them up and wow, what a great organization. Glad Cramer and Langerholc got this across the finish line for Cambria County.

650k is a solid chunk of money. Hope the stormwater improvements are actually done right this time — that park has had drainage issues for years. Good cause, just want to make sure the whole project holds up long term.

Roxbury Park is going to be such a wonderful spot for these kids. My nephew has cerebral palsy and finding places where he can just play like any other child is not easy. This field is going to mean the world to a lot of families around here.
