Cambria Heights Triumphs Over Northern Cambria in 2025 Coal Bowl

Highlanders Secure Victory in Intense Rivalry Matchup

In a thrilling display of high school football, the Cambria Heights Highlanders emerged victorious over the Northern Cambria Colts in the annual Coal Bowl held on September 19, 2025, in Patton, Pennsylvania.

The game was a testament to the enduring rivalry between these two teams, with both sides showcasing exceptional skill and determination. Cambria Heights managed to seize the momentum in the final quarter, securing a hard-fought win that keeps them at the forefront of the Heritage Conference.

Key plays included a decisive 2-yard touchdown run by Marshall Eckenrode with just over four minutes remaining, following a critical pass interference penalty that advanced the Highlanders to the Colts' 15-yard line. This score proved to be the game-winner, highlighting the intense back-and-forth nature of the matchup.

Defensively, the Highlanders were formidable, limiting the versatile Colts' quarterback, Ty Dumm, to 46 rushing yards and 102 passing yards. A standout moment came when defensive tackle Braylon Rydbom tackled Dumm for a 10-yard loss on a crucial fourth-and-2 play, effectively sealing the victory for Cambria Heights.

Offensively, senior Jaxxon Jones led the charge for the Highlanders, rushing for 88 yards on 23 carries, demonstrating both resilience and strategic prowess.

Post-game, Cambria Heights coach Jarrod Lewis praised the Colts, stating, "They are a tough team. That quarterback’s special, and they have some weapons around him. They fought hard the entire game. That’s a good football team."

On the other side, Northern Cambria coach Sam Shutty reflected on the game's pivotal moments, noting, "It was back and forth. We had momentum, they had momentum, they got it back. And then we couldn’t capture it. If we could have captured it, if we could have gotten that score..."

This victory not only adds another chapter to the storied rivalry but also positions Cambria Heights favorably as they continue their season in the Heritage Conference.

Looking ahead, both teams will analyze this game to build upon their strengths and address areas for improvement as they progress through the season.
