Fire department funding in Cambria County Pennsylvania |
Explore rescue vehicle grant opportunities and the CanAm 6x6 ATV for emergency response |
The Citizens Fire Company in Vintondale, Cambria County, has secured a $64,399 grant to acquire a 2026 CanAm 6×6 ATV.
This specialized vehicle is equipped with brush-fire fighting capabilities, including a hose line and an 85-gallon water tank.
Previously, the department relied on a Ford F-450 to navigate the challenging seven-mile stretch of the Ghost Town Trail.
The size of the F-450 made maneuvering difficult, especially during critical rescue operations.
A notable incident occurred when a special needs child went missing on the trail, highlighting the urgent need for a more adaptable rescue vehicle.
Fire Chief Rob Garver emphasized the challenges faced in securing funding until they discovered the Local Share Account grant program.
The process was lengthy, taking about a year, but the department's persistence paid off.
State Representative Frank Burns played a pivotal role in this achievement.
He acknowledged the department's determination and the critical need for the new vehicle.
With the addition of the CanAm 6×6 ATV, the Citizens Fire Company is now better equipped to handle emergencies along the Ghost Town Trail, ensuring quicker and more efficient responses. |
