Community Unites to Aid Food Pantries Ahead of Holidays |
In a heartfelt display of community spirit, the Forest Hills School District in Cambria County recently organized a food drive to assist families in need during the holiday season.
Students, families, and staff collaborated with local churches, Forest Hills EMS, and the Beaverdale Library to collect donations.
The initiative successfully raised nearly $10,400, which was evenly distributed between the South Fork Food Pantry and the Forest Hills Food Pantry.
Additionally, both pantries received close to two pickup trucks full of donated food items.
Members of the Leo Club, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Club, and the Never Alone Club played a pivotal role in loading the collected food.
One student expressed, "I'm glad that I can do this kind of stuff and give back to people in need. It is pretty special because then we feel like our community is good and that we can do great things when we put our minds to it."
Looking ahead, the elementary PTO has scheduled another food drive in February to help restock the pantries during the winter months.
In related efforts, the Humane Society of Cambria County hosted a Pet Food Pantry on November 5, providing emergency pet food to families in need.
Additionally, the Mountain Lion Backpack Program conducted a food drive from October 31 to November 9, aiming to support children facing food insecurity.
These initiatives underscore the community's commitment to supporting its members during challenging times. |
