Daniel Barefoot, a proud native of Geistown, Pennsylvania, has achieved a significant milestone by earning a place on Team USA's World Cup skeleton team, bringing him one step closer to competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics.
After graduating from Richland High School and Pennsylvania State University, Barefoot has been rigorously training at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center.
In October, he showcased his skills in Park City, Utah, during two critical selection races.
His exceptional performance, recording the fastest time among his peers, secured his spot on the 2025-26 World Cup team.
Reflecting on his journey, Barefoot shared, "I remember my first World Cup race, and I was just enamored by it. Everyone around me is so good. And I’m like, 'there's Olympic champions here,' people who finished silver and bronze, people who have been doing this for 20 years."
Currently, Barefoot is in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, familiarizing himself with the newly constructed Olympic skeleton track.
He is preparing for the upcoming World Cup race scheduled in two weeks.
As the 2026 Winter Olympic Games approach, the community of Geistown stands proudly behind one of their own, eagerly anticipating his pursuit of Olympic glory.
