Heather Vitko brings extensive experience to lead her alma mater into a new era |
Heather Vitko, a proud Johnstown native, has been appointed as the new director of the Conemaugh School of Nursing and Allied Health Programs.
With over two decades of experience in critical care and emergency nursing, Vitko's journey began at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, where she served as a critical care staff nurse from 1999 to 2020.
Her commitment to education led her to roles such as MSN Program Director and CNL Program Director at the University of Pittsburgh since 2021.
Vitko's academic credentials are impressive, holding a PhD in Nursing from Duquesne University and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh.
She is also certified as a Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL), Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), and Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN).
Reflecting on her new role, Vitko expressed enthusiasm about returning to her roots.
"It's an honor to lead the institution that laid the foundation for my nursing career," she said.
"I am committed to upholding the school's legacy of excellence and preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals."
The Conemaugh School of Nursing has a storied history, recently celebrating a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN exam for the third consecutive year, underscoring its commitment to academic excellence.
Vitko's appointment is expected to further enhance the school's reputation and contribute to addressing the ongoing nursing shortage in the region.
Her leadership is anticipated to bring innovative approaches to nursing education, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare industry.
