Meet Blitz! Cambria County DA's Office Welcomes New K-9 to Its Team

Cambria County has introduced its first new police K-9 in over a decade, marking a significant enhancement to local law enforcement capabilities.

 

In October 2025, a swearing-in ceremony in Ebensburg officially welcomed Blitz, a Belgian-born sable German Shepherd, to the Cambria County District Attorney's Office.

 

Trained by Strategic K-9 and donated by the Titan's Watch Foundation, Blitz has already made a substantial impact.

 

On his first day, he assisted in a successful drug seizure, contributing to a total of 14 drug-related cases within his initial month of service.

 

His handler, Chief Detective Brett Hinterliter, explained that Blitz alerts by sitting when detecting narcotics, providing probable cause for searches.

 

Blitz's deployment is entirely funded by nonprofit donations and community support, including contributions from local businesses and veterinary clinics.

 

This community-backed initiative not only revives the county's K-9 unit but also strengthens efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the region.

 

The Titan's Watch Foundation, named in memory of Officer Titan—a revered member of the Cambria County law enforcement community who died in the line of duty—extends its benefits to all of Cambria County.

 

This allows the foundation to provide vital assistance to K-9 units operating across the region, ensuring that every dedicated K-9 officer receives the support they need and deserve.

 

Blitz's arrival underscores the community's commitment to enhancing public safety and honoring the legacy of fallen officers.

 

His presence is expected to be a valuable asset in ongoing efforts to address narcotics-related issues in Cambria County.
