Johnstown, PA – The community gathered on May 8, 2026, to honor the unwavering support of military spouses during the 17th annual Military Spouse Appreciation Day.

 

Veteran Community Initiatives hosted the event at the 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial, drawing attendees from across Cambria County.

 

Keynote speaker Melissa Pounding, wife of Ret. U.S. Army Col. Jeff Pounding, shared her journey of adapting to military life, highlighting the unique challenges and rewards faced by military spouses.

 

Johnstown Mayor Rev. Sylvia King presented a city proclamation, officially recognizing the Friday before Mother’s Day as Military Spouse Appreciation Day, underscoring the city's commitment to acknowledging the sacrifices made by military families.

 

Emcee Bob Eyer, representing program sponsor Wessel & Company, emphasized the importance of community support for military families, noting that such events foster a sense of unity and appreciation.
