In a gripping high school football showdown, the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets edged out the Johnstown Johnnies with a 35-34 overtime win on Friday night.

 

The game was a testament to both teams' commitment to the ground game, with Mount Vernon amassing 385 rushing yards and Johnstown close behind with 292 yards.

 

Mount Vernon's coach, Mark Weber, praised his team's performance, highlighting their impressive average of 11.7 yards per carry over 33 rushes.

 

Quarterback Mason Richards was instrumental, breaking free for a 66-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and adding a 44-yard sprint later in the game.

 

Johnstown's offense was equally formidable, showcasing their renowned rushing attack that has set a high standard in the league.
