New Pittsburgh International Airport Terminal Set to Open November 18 |
State-of-the-Art Facility Designed to Enhance Passenger Experience and Reflect Regional Heritage |
Pittsburgh International Airport is poised to unveil its new terminal on Tuesday, November 18, marking a significant milestone in the region's aviation history.
This $1.7 billion project aims to provide a modern, efficient, and passenger-centric experience.
The new terminal spans 811,000 square feet and is strategically connected to the existing airside terminal via a covered, tube-shaped "Skybridge."
This design eliminates the need for the previous tram system, significantly reducing the time from curb to gate.
Passengers can expect a streamlined security process with 12 TSA lanes, up from seven, and an advanced baggage system that cuts delivery times in half.
Parking has been enhanced with a new Terminal Garage offering 3,300 spaces, featuring real-time availability indicators and green lights to guide drivers to open spots.
Additionally, the terminal boasts four outdoor terraces, two pre-security and two post-security, landscaped with native Western Pennsylvania flora, providing passengers with serene spaces to relax.
Reflecting Pittsburgh's rich heritage, the terminal's architecture incorporates high ceilings inspired by the region's rolling hills and constellation lighting, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Travelers will also enjoy an array of new dining and retail options, including local favorites like Mineo's and national brands such as Shake Shack.
Over 2,000 community members participated in public trials to test the terminal's systems and provide feedback, ensuring a seamless experience upon opening.
As the opening date approaches, Pittsburgh International Airport stands ready to offer a transformed travel experience that embodies the spirit and innovation of the region. |
