Pet Hunger Awareness Day Highlights Support for Families Facing Food Insecurity |
PetSmart Charities and Feeding America Collaborate to Provide Pet Food to Families in Need |
PetSmart Charities and Feeding America are joining forces to address the pressing issue of pet hunger in households experiencing food insecurity.
On September 30, 2025, recognized as Pet Hunger Awareness Day, these organizations will distribute pet food at various food banks nationwide.
With an estimated 30 million pets living in homes facing food insecurity, the need for such initiatives is critical.
According to recent reports, over 50 million people have sought assistance from food banks, marking a significant increase over the past decade.
Recognizing that when people face hunger, their pets do too, PetSmart Charities has been proactive in addressing this issue.
Since 2017, their partnership with Feeding America has resulted in the distribution of nearly 70 million pounds of pet food to families in need.
In addition to these efforts, PetSmart Charities collaborates with Meals on Wheels America to support older adults and their pets.
Many seniors report improved well-being and decreased loneliness due to pet companionship.
However, some have had to sacrifice their own meals to feed their pets.
Through this partnership, over 15 million pet meals have been delivered to seniors and their furry companions across the country.
Community members can contribute to these efforts by donating to PetSmart Charities online or at local PetSmart stores.
Donations of pet food and supplies to local food banks or animal shelters are also encouraged.
By supporting these initiatives, individuals can help ensure that both families and their pets receive the nutrition they need during challenging times. |
