Player of the Week: McCort-Carroll's Bentley Bainey |
Junior quarterback's stellar performance leads Crushers to victory |
Bentley Bainey, the junior quarterback for the McCort-Carroll Crushers, has been named Player of the Week following his outstanding performance in the recent game against the Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils.
Bainey showcased his dual-threat capabilities by completing 11 of 19 passes for 102 yards and rushing for 59 yards on eight carries, including two crucial touchdowns.
His leadership was instrumental in the Crushers' 21-6 victory.
One of the game's pivotal moments occurred late in the fourth quarter when Bainey, playing on defense, intercepted a pass near midfield.
This turnover set up his own 7-yard touchdown run, sealing the win for McCort-Carroll.
Reflecting on the interception, Bainey stated, "We were confident in our coverage, and I knew that I had to step up and make a play for the team there."
Head coach Tom Smith praised Bainey's performance, emphasizing the significance of his contributions on both offense and defense.
"Bentley's pick was big, but we also had a couple big stops on fourth down tonight," Smith noted.
With this win, the Crushers improved their record to 2-0, demonstrating their potential as strong contenders in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference.
Bainey's exceptional play has undoubtedly set a high standard for the team as they progress through the season. |
