Sanitary sewer project and stormwater system upgrades in Cambria County Pennsylvania

Residents of Scalp Level Borough are witnessing a significant transformation as the community embarks on a comprehensive sanitary sewer project and stormwater system upgrade.

For years, the aging infrastructure has posed challenges, with residents experiencing unpleasant sewage backups during heavy rains.

To address these issues, the borough has initiated a $5.4 million endeavor aimed at separating the combined sewer and stormwater systems.

The project involves the installation of approximately 8,236 feet of new gravity sewer pipe to serve 218 properties in the Mine 40 area.

Additionally, 1,876 feet of the existing system will be repurposed to function exclusively as a stormwater conduit.

Funding for this critical infrastructure upgrade includes a $4.7 million grant from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) and a $2.8 million low-interest loan.

State officials have emphasized the importance of such projects in enhancing public health and environmental safety.

Construction is set to commence this spring, with completion anticipated by fall, weather permitting.

Future plans also include upgrading water lines in the corridor by late 2026, ensuring comprehensive improvements before road repaving.
