Cambria County Redevelopment Authority officials have approved the transfer of full ownership of Cambria House to the Women’s Help Center, solidifying the future of the facility as a homeless shelter.

The nonprofit organization has been operating the Bedford Street location for more than a year. During a meeting on Thursday, the authority authorized the transfer of the property for a nominal fee of $1.

Roxann Tyger, executive director of the Women’s Help Center, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to take ownership. She noted that the authority’s goal of keeping the property dedicated to serving individuals experiencing housing insecurity closely aligns with the organization’s mission.

The redevelopment authority has held ownership of the building for several years, including the period when Catholic Charities managed the shelter. That arrangement ended in 2023 when the agency stepped away from operations.

Tyger also commended Executive Director Renee Daly and the authority for their ongoing partnership and shared commitment to supporting the community.

Daly said the authority believes this transition comes at the right time, placing the property in the hands of an organization well-positioned to maintain its role as a vital shelter. She emphasized confidence in the Women’s Help Center as the right choice to continue serving those in need.
