The Johnstown Inclined Plane is nearing a long-awaited reopening as a thorough 30-day inspection by state officials is now underway.

Teams from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry and PennDOT’s State Safety Oversight Division began evaluating safety and readiness, an essential milestone before the funicular welcomes passengers again.

This inspection represents one of the final steps in the major rehabilitation effort that started in 2021, managed by the Cambria County Transit Authority (CamTran).

Recent upgrades have included new haul cables, sheave wheels, and significant electrical improvements, all designed to boost reliability and safety.

While Edgehill Drive closures have occasionally affected travel, businesses like Asiago’s Tuscan Italian Restaurant stayed open, supporting the community.

With completion on the horizon, excitement grows for the historic Inclined Plane’s return, promising renewed vibrancy for Johnstown’s landmark attraction.

Cambria County celebrates the arrival of Blitz, its first new police K-9 in over a decade, bringing renewed strength to local law enforcement.

Blitz, a sable German Shepherd from Belgium, was officially sworn in during a heartfelt ceremony in Ebensburg alongside his handler, Chief Detective Brett Hinterliter.

Trained by Strategic K-9 and donated by the Titan’s Watch Foundation, Blitz has already played a key role in seizing narcotics and aiding 14 drug cases within his first month.

His deployment is made possible entirely through nonprofit donations and support from local businesses and veterinary clinics.

The foundation, honoring fallen K-9 Officer Titan, extends vital resources county-wide, strengthening drug enforcement and public safety.

Blitz’s presence represents the community’s united fight against drug-related crime while honoring the legacy of those who served before.
