The Path of the Flood Trail in Cambria County has earned the honor of Pennsylvania’s 2025 Trail of the Year, recognized by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
This scenic 14-mile route follows the path of the devastating 1889 Johnstown Flood, blending profound history with outdoor adventure.
Highlights like the Staple Bend Tunnel and vibrant opportunities for hiking, biking, and birdwatching draw about 80,000 visitors annually, including many from abroad.
Jointly managed by the Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority and the National Park Service, the trail has become a regional economic engine, fueling new businesses and hosting well-loved events such as the Path of the Flood Historic Races.
Officials credit community partnerships for maintaining the trail’s legacy, while the new designation is expected to attract even more visitors and boost local prosperity. Read More... |
Cambria County is set to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary with special events celebrating the nation’s history and uniting the local community.
In April, a Liberty Tree was planted at Sandyvale Memorial Gardens in Johnstown, symbolizing freedom and unity as part of Pennsylvania’s America 250 efforts to connect residents to history.
Next, the America250PA Mobile Experiential Unit will visit Ebensburg PotatoFest on September 27, 2025, offering an engaging, interactive historical exhibit.
Students will also be invited to participate in an essay contest launching in October, centered on liberty and democracy.
Winning essays will be celebrated at the Cambria County America 250 Celebration on July 4, 2026, at the courthouse in Ebensburg.
A specially designed torch will travel through local school districts, promoting community heritage.
The county’s Steering Committee welcomes sponsors and partners to support these initiatives as residents prepare to honor this historic milestone. Read More... |

This fierce Heritage Conference rivalry saw both teams deliver impressive performances, but Cambria Heights surged ahead in the final quarter to claim a hard-earned victory.
A pivotal moment arrived late in the game when Marshall Eckenrode powered in a 2-yard touchdown after a penalty placed the Highlanders deep in Colts territory, sealing the win with just minutes to spare.
Defensively, the Highlanders stifled the Colts’ dynamic quarterback Ty Dumm, while Braylon Rydbom’s key tackle on a fourth-and-2 play helped lock down the result.
Senior Jaxxon Jones led the Highlanders’ offense, rushing for 88 yards and driving the team’s tempo.
