Trivia Question❓

Which famous band performed their first show at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 1998?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

The Path of the Flood Trail in Cambria County has earned the honor of Pennsylvania’s 2025 Trail of the Year, recognized by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

This scenic 14-mile route follows the path of the devastating 1889 Johnstown Flood, blending profound history with outdoor adventure.

Highlights like the Staple Bend Tunnel and vibrant opportunities for hiking, biking, and birdwatching draw about 80,000 visitors annually, including many from abroad.

Jointly managed by the Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority and the National Park Service, the trail has become a regional economic engine, fueling new businesses and hosting well-loved events such as the Path of the Flood Historic Races.

Officials credit community partnerships for maintaining the trail’s legacy, while the new designation is expected to attract even more visitors and boost local prosperity.

The Cambria Heights Highlanders clinched a dramatic win over the Northern Cambria Colts in the annual Coal Bowl held September 19, 2025, in Patton, Pennsylvania.

This fierce Heritage Conference rivalry saw both teams deliver impressive performances, but Cambria Heights surged ahead in the final quarter to claim a hard-earned victory.

A pivotal moment arrived late in the game when Marshall Eckenrode powered in a 2-yard touchdown after a penalty placed the Highlanders deep in Colts territory, sealing the win with just minutes to spare.

Defensively, the Highlanders stifled the Colts’ dynamic quarterback Ty Dumm, while Braylon Rydbom’s key tackle on a fourth-and-2 play helped lock down the result.

Senior Jaxxon Jones led the Highlanders’ offense, rushing for 88 yards and driving the team’s tempo.

This win further fuels the local rivalry and boosts Cambria Heights’ standing in the conference as the season continues.

While no specific "local heroes" or "shoutouts" made headlines, the ongoing commitment of volunteers and the organization of fundraising events highlight the area's strong community spirit.

A significant local cause taking place, Sunday, September 21st, was the 13th Annual Walk for a Wonderful Life. This event brings the community together to raise awareness and support for important local initiatives.

For those looking to get involved in the community, there are ongoing volunteer opportunities available.

The Humane Society of Cambria County is in need of volunteers for various roles to assist with the care of animals.
