The Pennsylvania National Guard’s 252nd Engineer Company received a heartfelt sendoff from loved ones and neighbors at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown as they prepared for deployment to the Texas border.
Families embraced soldiers amid a bittersweet mix of pride and anxiety, with community support ringing strong during the ceremony.
Lt. Colonel Justin Wolfe highlighted the importance of both family farewells and community encouragement for the troops’ journey ahead.
Many soldiers, including Specialist Caleb Sheilds, voiced confidence in their unit’s training and solid leadership, while families marked the sendoff with small comforts like home-cooked meals.
The deployment comes as political debate continues about the National Guard’s role in border security; Governor Josh Shapiro recently declined calls for broader participation, stressing the need for comprehensive reform.
Despite the politics, the spotlight remains on the sacrifices and dedication of the soldiers and their families. Read More... |

Chick-fil-A is set to open a new restaurant in Richland Township after receiving unanimous approval from the township’s zoning board.
The project will transform the former Wolf Furniture building at 1130 Scalp Avenue into a modern dining spot with a drive-thru.
Civil engineer Justin Thornton shared that the goal is to welcome guests by 2027.
Approved setback variances allow the new building to sit closer to both Constable Avenue and Frances Street than normally permitted.
These changes make space for a drive-thru canopy and dumpster enclosure, while new landscaping—featuring evergreen trees—will help maintain the area’s curb appeal.
Site owner Butterfli Holdings LLC plans to subdivide the lot, leasing out leftover space to another business.
Once finished, the restaurant will employ up to 20 locals and be located across from McDonald’s, adding a fresh dining choice in Richland Township. Read More... |
