The Pennsylvania House has advanced a proposal to transform how pets are treated in divorce cases, passing House Bill 97 with strong support.

Rep. Anita Kulik of Allegheny County championed the bill, which redefines companion animals as more than property, recognizing them as cherished family members.

Currently, state law treats pets like furniture during divorce settlements.

The new legislation would require judges to weigh factors such as who cares for the pet, ensures veterinary visits, and meets financial needs.

Service animals would remain with the person or child who relies on them.

This shift acknowledges the deep emotional ties families share with pets, offering courts a framework for fairer decisions in separations.

House Bill 97 now heads to the Senate, signaling a potential legal shift in how pets are valued in Pennsylvania households.

In 2024, visitors to Cambria County spent over $300 million while exploring local attractions, as per Visit Johnstown.

The 2024 Economic Impact report notes a significant increase compared to previous years, with a $14 million rise from 2023 and a $110 million spike from 2020 figures.

This growth highlights the region's appeal to tourists and its economic impact on the area.

The data reflects a positive trend in tourism and spending within Cambria County, showcasing the area's potential for further development and growth in the future.
