The Flavor of Fall: Local Businesses Embrace the Season in Cambria County
As the leaves begin to turn and the crisp autumn air settles over Cambria County, local businesses are celebrating the new season with exciting openings, community-focused events, and special promotions. This time of year is a perfect opportunity to support the small businesses that make our community unique, whether you're looking for a new dining spot, a one-of-a-kind gift, or a way to get involved.
New Businesses Serving Up Local Flavors
The culinary scene in Cambria County continues to grow, with new eateries adding to the area's diverse offerings. One of the latest to open its doors is Laurel & Grouse, a restaurant in Johnstown's Cambria City neighborhood that opened in late 2024 and has quickly become a local favorite. With a menu featuring fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, the new eatery offers an upscale yet comfortable dining experience. The owners, who took inspiration from the state flower and bird for the name, are committed to utilizing seasonal and local ingredients. You can find more information about their offerings and make a reservation on the Visit Johnstown website or their own site: Follow
Another new spot that has recently expanded its offerings is The Wine Loft, an addition to the popular Stone Bridge Brewing Co. in Johnstown. This new venture brings a sophisticated, urban vibe to the heart of the city, and complements their existing brewery and craft kitchen, creating a one-stop destination for a night out. More details on their offerings can be found on their website.
Special Sales and Promotions to Kick Off the Season
Small businesses across the county are rolling out special promotions to welcome the fall rush. While specific, large-scale sales may not be announced until closer to the date, many businesses are participating in community-wide events and offering in-store deals. For instance, the Borough of Ebensburg's Main Street Partnership often features promotions and events for its member businesses. You can stay up-to-date on their latest happenings by checking their directory and event pages: Follow
Additionally, many businesses take part in senior discount days and other regular promotions. For example, some businesses offer discounts for those 55+, which can be a great way to save while supporting the local economy. Community Outreach and Engagement
Local businesses are not just about commerce; they are the heart of the community. Many are actively participating in or hosting community outreach events this season. The Community Arts Center of Cambria County, for instance, hosts its annual Log House Arts Festival over Labor Day weekend, a major event that brings together local artists and vendors and highlights the area's creative scene. The festival also provides a platform for small businesses to connect directly with residents. Learn more about this and other events on the Arts Center's official website: https://caccc.org/events-1
Other community-focused events to look out for in September include the Sandyvale Wine Festival and the Johnstown Slavic Festival, which bring together local vendors, musicians, and artists. Joke Of The Day |
Why did the man bring a ladder to Cambria County? Because he heard the people there were on a higher level! |
The Humane Society of Cambria County partnered with a local Sherwin-Williams store in Cambria County to host the "Paint & Pups" adoption event. The event aimed to help animals at the shelter find their forever homes. The event was held at the Sherwin-Williams paint store in Richland Township. The humane society organized the event to address the shelter's population crisis and raise awareness about the dogs available for adoption. By showcasing the dogs at community events like this, they hope to educate the public on animal care and encourage more adoptions. Upcoming events include volunteering with the Johnstown Tomahawks and a comedy night at the Pasquerilla Conference Center on February 22nd. |
