🎓 COLLEGESPenn State Altoona (Lions)Most Recent Results (within 48 hours): Softball — On April 28, the Lady Lions swept a Senior Day doubleheader against Mt. Aloysius. In Game 1, Penn St.-Altoona won 2–0 (improving to 21–14, 11–4 in AMCC). In Game 2, they won 5–3 (improving to 22–14, 12–4 in AMCC). Baseball — On April 27, the Lions fell to Juniata, 15–5. Penn St.-Altoona is now 16–17 (7–8 AMCC) on the season.
🏫 HIGH SCHOOLSHollidaysburg Area High School (Golden Tigers)Boys Tennis — District 6 Class 3A Doubles Championship (April 30): The Hollidaysburg duo of senior Garrett Bouchard and Felix Xu won the District 4–6 Class 3A doubles championship for the second straight year on Wednesday (April 30), defeating State College's Evan Zhang and Jude Cessna in straight sets, 7–5, 6–2, at the Summit Tennis and Athletic Club. Bouchard and Xu will now represent Hollidaysburg in the PIAA Class 3A boys doubles championships for the second straight year. District 6 Singles (April 29): In the District 6 Class 3A singles tournament, Hollidaysburg's Felix Xu fell to top-seeded William Liu of State College, 6–3, 6–3, in the quarterfinals, while Garrett Bouchard defeated Central Mountain's Joey McCluskey in the quarterfinals before losing to Eric Liu of State College, 6–2, 3–6, 6–1, in the semifinals. Altoona Area High School also had players in that singles tournament: Owen Wasovich beat Mifflin County's Aiden Newlen in the quarterfinals but lost to top-seeded William Liu, 6–0, 6–0, in the semifinals. Dylan Batrus also advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Eric Liu of State College, 6–0, 6–3. Claysburg-Kimmel (Bulldogs/Lady Bulldogs)
Softball (April 27): Claysburg-Kimmel swept a doubleheader on Monday, April 27. In the first game, Launa Musselman allowed just three hits and struck out nine in a 10–0, five-inning win over James Buchanan. In the second game, they edged Northern Bedford 2–0. Isabella Paris threw a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the Lady Bulldogs. McKenna Black, Paris, and Harlee Harclerode each drove in two runs. Track & Field (Regional Honor Roll — April 27)The Altoona Mirror published an area-wide track & field honor roll from April 27 featuring multiple Blair County schools: Hollidaysburg's Muth led boys in the 100 dash (10.93). Walters of Hollidaysburg topped the 200 dash (22.52). Bellwood-Antis' Stoltzfus led the 400 dash (50.87). Hollidaysburg's Manfred led the 800 (1:59.63), 1600 (4:28.62), and Hollidaysburg led the 3200 relay (8:19.10). For field events, Hollidaysburg's Walters led the long jump (22–5.5), York led the shot put (45–0), and Zimmerman led the discus (145–7). Bellwood-Antis' Quick topped the discus (157–0). In hurdles, Bellwood-Antis' Nelson led boys 110 hurdles (15.14) and 300 hurdles (39.43 per Hollidaysburg's Ross at 39.43). |
