Windmill components, including blades and other large parts, will begin moving through Cambria and surrounding counties next week as shipments make their way to a Central Pennsylvania wind farm.

Starting Monday, March 30, two superloads hauling wind turbine blades will depart Maryland around 10 a.m. The heavy haulers will travel along U.S. 219 through Somerset and Cambria Counties before continuing onto Route 869 (Locust Street) and Route 160 (Mill Road) toward their destination.

Additional shipments will leave the Maryland facility from Tuesday, March 31, through Friday, April 3, with departures scheduled for 8 a.m., 9 a.m., and 10 a.m. each day.

Two nacelle superloads — the turbine hubs that house key mechanical components — will also begin their journey from Clearfield County on Monday and Tuesday at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Those convoys will travel along I-99 through Centre County, continue into Blair County on U.S. 22, then enter Cambria County via Ebensburg before heading south on U.S. 219 to Route 869 (Beaver Run Avenue), reaching the wind farm site.

PennDOT advises motorists to remain cautious when encountering these slow-moving superloads, which may travel below posted speed limits at various points along their routes. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and consider alternative routes when possible.
